Ketel Marte homered, Eduardo Rodriguez struck out a season-high nine, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 to clinch the season series Sunday in Phoenix.
Rodriguez (11-4) threw a season-high 115 pitches, two short of a career high, while giving up two runs in seven innings. He allowed seven hits and walked two in his eighth quality start of his last 10.
Marte hit a two-out, two-run homer in the first inning off Justin Wrobleski (11-4) and the D-backs added two more in the second to give Rodriguez a four-run cushion.
Rodriguez struck out Teoscar Hernandez three times and Shohei Ohtani twice. He is 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA in four starts against the Dodgers this season.
Andy Pages had two hits and an RBI for the Dodgers, who have lost eight of nine after breaking a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 win Saturday.
Los Angeles scored seven runs in the three-game series.
Kevin Ginkel struck out two during a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save of the season in two chances.
The D-backs, 18-9 since July 9, won the season series 7-6 for their first series win over the Dodgers since 2018.
Wrobleski gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) in 3 1/3 innings, the shortest of his 27 career starts. He struck out three and walked three. He has allowed nine homers in his last three starts across 13 2/3 innings.
The D-backs (63-56) remained tied with Philadelphia for the second wild card spot, six games behind the Chicago Cubs.
Marte lined a 1-1 fastball 385 feet into the Arizona bullpen in the first, after Geraldo Perdomo walked to open the inning and was forced out at second on Gabriel Moreno’s fielder’s choice.
Tyler Locklear and Moreno doubled during Los Angeles’ two-run second. Locklear scored when Wrobleski threw Ryan Waldschmidt’s sacrifice bunt into right field. Moreno’s two-out RBI double drove in the second run.
Pages doubled in a run in the third after Enrique Hernandez and Ben Rortvedt singled with one out.
The Dodgers closed the gap to 4-2 when Freddie Freeman singled to open the sixth and scored on Kyle Tucker’s two-out triple.
