Kansas City Royals slugger Jac Caglianone on Wednesday announced his decision to participate in the Home Run Derby next week in Philadelphia.
A first-time participant, Caglianone will join Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero and New York Yankees first baseman Ben Rice in the field at Citizens Bank Park on Monday.
“I was approached a couple of days ago and got asked to do the Home Run Derby and I think I’m going to do it this year,” Caglianone said during an appearance on “MLB Central” on MLB Network.
Caglianone, 23, said his dad will throw to him during the competition.
“He’s got ice in his veins,” Caglianone said. “He’ll put it in a good spot. It’s going to be great.”
Caglianone belted nine of his 14 homers this season in June. He is batting .258 with 33 RBIs in 85 games.
