Warriors’ McCaw, Mavs’ Ferrell receive qualifying offers

The Golden State Warriors extended a qualifying offer to guard Patrick McCaw, according to multiple reports Tuesday, making him a restricted free agent.McCaw’s offer is worth about $1.75 million, but the 22-year-old will be able to negotiate an offer sheet with another team once free agency opens on Sunday. While the Warriors will have the chance to match any offer he receives, their loaded salary cap could allow another team to sign McCaw away.”We love Pat and we really hope he’s back,” assistant GM Kirk Lacob said on KNBR 680 radio Monday. “We’ll see how this process plays out.”Like any player, we would tell him, ‘This is about you and your life. It’s not about us. We really hope you come back and we’re going to offer you a contract, but go find out what’s best for you. Figure out what out there really makes you tick and what you want.'”McCaw averaged 4.0 points and 1.4 assists per game in 57 games (10 starts) last season, missing nearly two months after suffering a spinal injury on a scary fall in late March. He returned to play minimally in six playoff games.–The Dallas Mavericks extended a qualifying offer to Yogi Ferrell, Doug McDermott and Salah Mejri, according to ESPN, making them restricted free agents.Ferrell’s offer is worth $2.9 million, while McDermott’s is for $4.3 million and Mejri’s is for about $1.8 million.Ferrell, 25, averaged 10.5 points, 2.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in 82 games (21 starts) last season, his first full campaign with the Mavericks. Those numbers were down slightly from the 11.3 points, 4.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds he averaged in 36 games (29 starts) with Dallas in 2016-17. The Mavs picked him up after he was waived by the Brooklyn Nets.
