Ex-Auburn coach Tuberville announces run for U.S. Senate

Former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville announced his candidacy Saturday to run for United States senator as a Republican from Alabama.”After more than a year of listening to Alabama’s citizens, I have heard your concerns and hopes for a better tomorrow. I am humbled to announce the next step – I will be a Republican candidate for US Senate,” he wrote on his campaign website.Tuberville joins the race to challenge Democrat Doug Jones in 2020. Jones won the seat in 2017 over Republican Roy Moore in a special election after the incumbent senator, Jeff Sessions, became attorney general under President Donald Trump.Tuberville, 64, spent 21 seasons as a college head coach, enjoying his greatest success at Auburn from 1999 to 2008. He went 85-40 in 10 seasons with the Tigers, with eight bowl appearances and two top 10 finishes in the AP poll.
